Collection: Ca' Di Press
Ca' di Press, Monforte d'Alba - Piedmont.
Bruno Pressenda, is an experienced winegrower. He has spent most of his life working on the family's 7.5 hectare estate and knows every detail of the landscape, vineyards and grape varieties. The family has owned land in La Morra and Monforte since the beginning of the 20th century.
For many years, Bruno sold the grapes from the family estate to some of the other big names in the area. A few years ago, his daughters, Alice and Cristina, started to get involved in the farm, and thus started Ca' dï Press, which means "House of the Pressenda Family"
When the 2 daughters Cristina and Alice decided that the family should start their own wine production, they did not just take over the operation from one day to the next. Instead, they work closely with their father and greatly benefit from his extensive experience and knowledge.
Ca' dï Press, is located in Monforte d'Alba in the heart of the Barolo region. Here they benefit from a calcareous and clayey soil, which is ideal for the Nebbiolo grape, which beautifully develops its complexity and structure under the local climate conditions of hot summers and cool winters.
The winery attaches great importance to sustainability and intervenes as little as possible in both vineyard and cellar, so that each wine honestly reflects the unique terroir and the specific vintage.
In production, all the grapes are de-stemmed, and fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto are also matured exclusively in steel, as the family believes that these wines are particularly sensitive to the influence of wood. They don't want the cask character to drown out or hide the fruit, they go for the completely pure expression.
Their Barolo first spends 8 months in steel, then a minimum of 20 months in large 3000 liter Slovenian oak barrels, and finally a year in bottle before being released.
They have started quite small. Of their Barolo debut vintage 2018, they made only 4,000 bottles and approx. twice as many in 2019.
Their wines are wonderfully dark and deep and have a rich and inviting character that really shows what the grapes from the steep slopes can do.
The Barolo reigns with its rich bouquet of cherry, truffle, roses and a hint of leather. A wine that is expected to have an impressive durability that can extend over several decades.
Elegance and balance are top notch. The combination of the powerful and voluminous tannins, the magical fruit and the fine acidity, creates an exquisite harmony and a superb long taste.
