Collection: Massolino

The story of the Massolino family and their wine starts in Serralunga d'Alba as early as 1896, when Giovanni Massolino founded the winery. Giovanni was an enterprising, persistent and creative man, and it was he, for example, who brought electricity to the village.

The first wine cellar was built by Giuseppe, son of the founder Giovanni, who, together with his sister Angela, expanded his property with the best lands, and he was one of the founders of the consortium for Barolo and Barbaresco in 1934.

Giuseppe had six children. Three of them, Giovanni, Camilla and Renato, followed in their father's footsteps and expanded the estate with the purchase of Massolino's best vineyards: Margheria, Parafada and Vigna Rionda, the last of which is the most famous. All three fields are located in Serralunga, and the Parussi field in Castiglione Falletto was added later.

It is these four fields that supply the grapes for Massolino's four single-field Barolos, all of which are made in the traditional way in large oak barrels.

This year, 2022, Massolino's first Barbaresco vintage will be released. The family has always had a dream to produce this wonderful, delicate wine from the area. The family looked for a long time, and they wanted the fields in Neive, as they believe that this is where you get the desired expression. After a long search, they found 4 ha divided between the crus Albesani, Starderi and Serraboella. 10,000 bottles of Barbaresco DOCG have been produced, which hit the market on March 1, 2022, and for September 2022, 4,000 bottles of Barbaresco Albesani DOCG 2019 will be released.

For this purpose, Massolino has built a nice little cellar in Alba. This was necessary as the Italian wine laws do not allow the bottling of Barbaresco in Serralunga.

The production is organic.
