Collection: Sylvan
Sylvaner is one of the oldest and most recognized white grapes in Alsace. It has also been cultivated in other parts of Europe, such as Germany, Austria and Hungary. The grape thrives best in cool climates and is often one of the first grapes harvested in Alsace.
The Sylvaner grape is known for its fruity, crisp and slightly sweet flavors that include notes of grass, apple, citrus and stone fruit. The grape's fruitiness is the key factor in its success in Alsace, where it is often used to make classic Alsace white wines.
The Sylvaner grape is a versatile grape variety that can be used to make both dry and sweet wines. Dry Sylvaner wines have a fresh acidity and a gentle bitterness, while sweet Sylvaner wines have an intense fruitiness and sweetness.
The Sylvaner grape has often been grown in a blend with other white grape varieties, such as Riesling and Gewürztraminer, to provide a complex blend of flavors and aromas. Sylvaner grape vines require regular pruning to maintain a healthy production of grapes and to prevent overgrowth.
