Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Au Closeau 2017
Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Au Closeau 2017
The domaine owns 80% of the microscopic 1st Cru 'Au Closeau'.
The plot faces east at an altitude of 280 meters in the southern part of Gevrey-Chambertin, directly opposite the Grand Cru field Mazis-Chambertin.
The grapes from the low-yielding vines, all of which were originally planted in 1943, are hand-picked and the must is aged for 18 months in 40% new oak barrels from Allier and Nivernais with medium roasting to give the wine a restrained and harmonious character.
The color is deep ruby red in the glass. The aroma is complex and deep, filled with notes of dark berries, red fruits, forest floor and mixed spices.
The taste is delightfully fruity with ripe cherry, vanilla and raspberry aromas. Is nicely round and fresh, but still silky soft.
The overall impression is a very charming and successful wine.
