Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG is an even higher quality of Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. This classification represents the very best and most mature examples of Brunello wine.
To obtain Riserva DOCG status, the wine must meet the following requirements:

Grapes: The wine must be made from 100% Sangiovese grapes grown in the Montalcino area.

Vinification: The wine must be made using traditional methods, including fermentation in oak barrels, at least two years of maturation in casks and at least four years of maturation in bottles before release to the market.

Alcohol percentage: The wine must have a minimum alcohol percentage of 12.5% and a maximum of 15%.

Taste and aroma: The wine must have an extraordinary balanced taste with complex notes of red fruits and spices. The aroma must be intense and substantial.

Colour: The wine must have a deep, intense ruby red colour.

Labeling: The bottle must bear the DOCG mark, the name "Brunello di Montalcino" and "Riserva".

Analysis: The wine must undergo a series of analytical tests to ensure that it meets the requirements for alcohol percentage, sugar content and acid balance.
By meeting these requirements, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG ensures an even higher quality and authenticity than Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. It is an extraordinary wine intended for special occasions and to be enjoyed with fine food.
